MEANINGFUL USE READINESS CHECKLIST

Is your organization ready to comply with Meaningful Use requirements?  How many YES responses can your organization make to the the following questions?

• Have you read the 276 page Medicare and Medicaid Programs Electronic Health Record Incentive Final Rule, published in the Federal Register on July 28, 2010?
• Do you know what the Meaningful Use timelines are?
• Have you established a Meaningful Use steering committee?
• Have you developed a comprehensive project plan for EHR implementation that addresses how to achieve compliance for each of the Meaningful Use criteria?
• Does your Meaningful Use implementation team have a solid understanding of the Meaningful Use regulation and its extensive impact on organizational processes?
• Have you selected and/or purchased an ONC-certified EHR system? If you are using multiple systems as your EHR, do you know the requirements for integrating them to apply for Meaningful Use?
• Have you implemented the version of your EHR that is “certified” for Meaningful Use?
• Do you know how to “evidence” that your EHR meets the all of the Meaningful Use criteria?
• Have you evaluated your eligibility for the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive programs? Have you analyzed the financial impact to your organization of choosing one EHR versus others?
• Do you understand the federal and state registration and attestation processes for applying for incentive payments?
• For Eligible Hospitals: Have you determined the method your organization will use to define which Emergency Department patients will be included in your patient population? Have you determined the financial impact of each of the alternatives?
• Have you determined which Menu Set criteria you will use towards your Stage 1 attestation?
• Do you know what organizational workflows will need adjustment to address Meaningful Use?
• Has your organization developed training plans for adoption of new EHR systems and modules?
• Are you ready to attest to your organization’s complete Meaningful Use compliance?
